    violent cat behavior
I have an SPCA rescued cat that is male and 7 years old his name is Loki. He has always been very aggressive. Three years ago when I got Loki from the SPCA he was looking for attention rubbing around my legs getting on my lap but when petted he would suddely tense up and lash out with claws and teeth, run 5 feet away calm down and come back to my lap. Over the years he has gotten much better with me but still attacks but with less agressivness. I now live with my fiancé and her son, Loki attacks Pam on a regular basis. We have just learned that Loki has been going to the neighbors house and attacking the older cats there. One attack ripped part of the other animals face off. So I have a cat that only likes me attacks the rest of the family and is aparently going out and attacking older weaker cats. What can I do with him?

First, don't let him out. This is the kind of thing that happens when cats are outside - obviously wasn't very safe for the neighbor's cat to be out.

    Is he neutered?

Given that he was 7 when you got him, there could be all sorts of things in his background that you wouldn't know about that could have made him like this. Do they perchance keep any records about the animals they adopt out? Based on his background, it may take time to get used to the fiancée and kid as well.

I had a cat I call the "she witch" because she could turn nasty very suddenly. It's possible it was just part of her personality, but I'm also convinced it was at least partially related to having been teased a lot when she was a kitten, by people who thought she was just playing when in reality she was getting very, very angry.

How do you react when he attacks? You certainly don't want to be mean with him or provoke him, but I think you do need to stay in charge. He will sense fear.

You might try something like Feliway or one of the Bach essenses. I know many who use the Rescue Remedy for calming for trips to the vets, but am not that familiar with the rest of them -- but looks like maybe Holly?
