    Emergency generator
I would like to know if a 10,000-8,000 watt 50 amp emergency generator would power a Goodman 3 ton heat pump during a power outage. I don' know the amperage of the pump but is 3 ton units all the same. Would be very thankful for any helpful advice. lmg64

The trouble will be in the starting amps, which is estimated at 75 to 85 amps depending on unit. The running amps is much lower at about 25.

You should have all the specs for your heat pump written down and taped to the wall. Where's the documentation that came with it? Google the model and print it out.
