I was in a relationship for 5 years with a man 10 years younger than me. We had our ups and downs but loved each other so dearly. However he cheated on me but as I love him so much I forgave him . 5 months ago it happened again, but he denied it, and said he loved me more than anything else in this world, and he would prove it to me when he come back from his holiday because I was special to him. But in my anger I told him I have moved on even though I still loved him with every ounce of my heart.

When he came back he did not show any feeling, but bought me a beautiful present. In meantime we kept being friends and I waited for him to show me how much he loved me. But nothing happened. A few weeks back, I decided that I should let him go and kind of stopped contact with him. But he kept in touch and I became really cold as I did not want to get hurt any more. He backed off and stopped contact too.

Then I found out that he is seeing someone I know. I was hurt and broken hearted. I still love him so much but I can't seem to move on. Sadly I do not have a switch on and off to the feeling that I have for him.

How can I when he was my everything? Please help.

Sorry for your situation, as we all know breakups are some hard emotional times to go through and its hard to know what to do with ourselves when they happen. 5 years is a long time and breaking the bonds and attachment is never easy, and will take time and many adjustments to come as you heal and rebuild a life with out them.

Read the stickies here for some insights and suggestions and how others have dealt with their break ups. It does start with cutting all contact with the ex, and having family, and friends to help support you through this shock, and disbelief, as you mourn the death of this relationship.

Thank you for your help. I know I have to move on but I still love him and knowing he is with another girl has not stopped or diminished my feelings for him. What is worst is he has kept it a secret - he thinks I don't know. He also has arrange to meet for dinner but I won't go. It is so hard to move on as he is with circle of my friends. I hope for my sake he moves away with his girl. She is from australia and hope they go as far so I don't see them at least till I am stronger.
