How to break a lease I didn't move in to
I gave a deposit and signed a six month lease in NC. I decided not to move there due to medical reasons. Can I get out of this lease? I tried explaining to the property manager but she said no way she'll release me from the lease even though I haven't even moved in to the apartment yet. Is there a way I can get out of this? Please help. Thank you.

You signed a lease and that obligates you. How far away from your move in date are you?
If the landlord refuses to allow you out, you may have to offer a buyout.

Hi, I signed a 6 month lease on 9/21 and gave a $1,800 deposit (sec dep + 1 mo rent + pet fee). I am moving from another state and decided because of medical reasons that it would not be wise for me to go to a new state where I don't know anyone. I explained all of this to management and they were not sympathetic and said I have to full fill my lease for at least 3 months, then they can try to re-rent the apartment.

They have no reason to be sympathetic. You didn't answer when your move in date was supposed to be. That's important.
It may be that you can back out and tell them to sue you for the balance. I doubt if you stand a chance of getting back what you paid already.

They expected me to move in on 9/21, the date that I signed the lease. I was still living in another state at that time and just flew to NC to sign the lease. I told them I planned on moving in four days later. I signed the lease early because I was told to be at the office before noon to sign the lease and get they keys. I don't see well at night and did not want to drive through the night to get there by morning. I have a disability and require frequent stops when driving or car riding.

So you took possession on 9/21 and then informed them a day or so later that you changed your mind. This means that the apartment would be vacant while they started advertising and screening tenants. They are expecting you to pay for that.
Like I said, you are committed. The best you can hope for is that they find a new tenant quick and don't come after you for anymore than you've paid so far.

Thanks Scott for your advice. I've given up and decided to take the apartment in fear of ruining my credit. It's only for 6 months so I'll just deal with it. Take care.
