Turn toilet a different direction, but over same hole (drain pipe)
My toilet faces the tub and there is barely enough room for someone to sit on it. I would like to keep the toilet in the same location but just turn it to face a different direction (towards the door) in which has a lot more room to actually sit on the toilet straight. This is a teeny tiny bathroom. House was built in the 30's... I guess pier and beam foundation. Definitely not on a slab foundation. Is this an easy fix since the toilet stays in the same location, but will face a different direction? Do pipes have to be moved? Would a handyman be able to do this... or should I can in a plumber? I don't think the toilet sits on the tile I think it butts up to the toilet. So there may have to be added tile.

Lot depends on the exact layout of the room and the exact placement of the drain. A picture of the bathroom and some dimensions could help us venture a guess.

If a handyman can do it really depends on his skill levels.

A toilet flange allows the toilet to be placed any where in a 360 degree circle. The problem is, as Smoothy says, one of clearance. The code requires certain distances to the side and front of the toilet. You will also have to figure out how to reattach the water supply. Not a real difficult task but a toilet is very heavy and it is much easier to separate the tank from the bowl to accomplish the task.

I'm replacing the toilet in a bathromm that was an add-on to our house.
