    Dog pooping in crate
Hi, this is my first time on this site. I did go through and read the questions and answers from other people regarding their dog issues. I have a Yorkie mix and he is a little over 1 yr old. When I first got him I put him in a cage at night and he would freak out for over an hour and go to the bathroom in his cage. So I decided to have him sleep with me so I could sleep and not have to worry about waking up in the middle of the night to clean up his cage. I also have another Yorkie and she always slept with me. He does not whine when he has to go out. The problem I have is when I cage him, whether its for work or when I run to the store for a few minutes he goes to the bathroom in the cage. I used to put both dogs in the same cage but with the divider. He would pee on the other dog. So I got him his own cage and adjusted it to make it big enough to turn around and he still goes in the cage. I asked my vet and she said I needed to work on our relationship. I think our relationship is great. I am affectionate with him, walk him, talk to him. I have tried not to show him any attention when he goes in the cage. That doesn't work either. I walk them a few times a day. He always poops for me 2 times in the mornng before I leave for work. I stopped feeding them in the morning and now they only eat when I get home from work. He is great in the house. I have no other problems wth him except for the pooping/peeing in the cage. I can not take it anymore, everyday day I have to wash him and the cage. PLEASE HELP, this has been going on for way too long!!

Pooing and peeing in the crate is not a normal behaviour. Most dogs view their crate as their den, a safe haven, and won't potty in it because of that. If he's doing this it's probably because he's stressed out.

I wish I had some easy advice, but I've never had to deal with this type of behaviour in a dog. The only thing I can think of is positive reinforcement whenever he has to go into his cage. Also, are you sure that the cage isn't too big for him? The cage should give him just enough room to lay down and turn around.

Hopefully someone with more experience in crate training will come along. Check back often for more advice.

    Good luck.
