    Ceiling fan wiring
Over the weekend we installed two ceiling fans in two bedrooms... the fan portion was working fine but when we put in the lightbulbs the lighting portion was not working. I tried the fan this morning before work and the fan was still working and the lights were not. Now I am getting a call from my kids that are telling me that they have no electrical in either of their rooms and that the fans will not come on either. I have suggested that they try the breakers and they have done so reporting that the breakers are fine. The electrical is not working properly in my upstairs except for in the master bedroom where everything is fine...lights, ceiling fan, and all outlets. I am confused and a bit worried as to what the problem may be. Please advise. There was just a regular light there before with two 60 watt bulbs. I look forward to your answer asap. Thanks! KH

Not to be a wise guy, but I think you'd better call an electrician. As a Master Electrician, I would have to take down both fans to see what is going on. Also, It could be an unrelated problem as far as the receptacles not working. (I.E. back stabbed receptacles, where the receptacles are installed using the ports in the back of them instead of wrapping the wire around the screws.

What was there before the fans, and how were they connected?

How did you connect the fans?
