I'm installing a ceiling fan in a bedroom and theintructions say to attach black to black and whiteto whita wires. The problem is there is no black wire on the fan motor. There is a red, blue, whte and brown wires. Which one do I use instead of the black wire?

Brown, I would assume is actually black. Connect it (and the red, if you are using a light) to the black wire.

    What make is the fan?

The OP wasn't specific enough for this question to be answered. Should have ask for the model, and manufacture info.. Yet, seems like I'm two months too late... :D
