Hi,

I recently replaced everything inside the toilet tank and have double checked to make sure everything is sealed and connected correctly. The tank still lets water leak into the bowl so it's running constantly (not as bad as before but still noticeable). Any ideas?

The refill tube is not supposed to be lower than the top of the water level on the overflow tube.

Check the tank water level, it should be at the mark in the tank or 3/8 to 1/2" below the top of the over flow tube. Now look at the flapper, If it has wavey edges on the flat surface, replace it. The linkage between the flapper and the flush lever should have 1/4" play when the tank is filled. Also, check the small tube coming out of the top of the bakkcock and make sure it's connect to and draining into the white overflow tube. If you still have a problem and the water level in the tank is correct and the flapper's seating then you may have a faulty flush valve. Run your finger around the hole the flapper seats on. If it has rough or nicked spots the flush valve should be replaced. Let me kinow. Tom

TK you've gotten some good advice here from two guys who know what they are doing. If that water level is at over slightly about the white overflow tube top you can adjust the level by adjusting your float. Is it on a brass rod or is this plastic? Some adjust differently than others.

Thanks for all the advice. It turns out that the refill tube was down too far inside the overflow tube and also my water level was a bit too high. I raised the refill tube and lowered the water level and everything works fine now. Thanks!

Glad you are working better. I would not think that the fill tube depth would make much difference though.

I agree with Doug238 I had the same problem with the refill tube was to far inside the overflow tube, I cut about 1.5" form it and works great.

I told this story on here some time ago. A guy I worked with about 30 years ago had the same problem with a very expensive color toilet. He said the same thing... replaced everything and even epoxied the tank to the bowl, spending over 200 dollars trying to fix it. I told him I could fix it in 2 minutes, he did not believe me. I went to his home and looked, sure enough the refill tube was syphoning the tank. I told him to peek down the overflow with a flashlight, he saw it. I cut the refill tube and was completed in under 2 minutes.
