Hsi, glow plug, etc. Usually easy to replace, best if you get the right one for your furnace(instead of a universal)

Now, how old is your goodman furnace. If it is less than five years old, the glow plug will be very small. It will be located on one side of the burneres or the other. It will have two wires leading to it. Don't confuse it with the flame senser, which will only have one wire leading to it. This is a simple fix. But if you have never done it before, and don't know where it is located, then I would suggest having the pros take care of it for you. When the teck shows up, just have him show you what he's doing, so that you can do it yourself the next time. If you don't want to pay a pro, then we can most likely walk you through this.

    1. locate glow plug
    2. remove glow plug
    3. get same glow plug(have model and serial number when ordering part)
4 reinstall glow plug(be careful not to touch the element part of glow plug with your fingers or anything else. Oil from your fingers will result short life of glow plug) Let me know if this helps. Take care

Thank you so much, my Goodman model is GMT series. It came with the house I moved in 2004 so is almost 6 years. I will check out this weekend if I can fix myself. Thanks again.

    Here is my experience (similar):

    +

When our Rheem (Criterion model) gas furnace was just blowing air, we called for a service person.

Within five minutes he found the problem.

    A cracked HOT SURFACE IGNITER.

I was told that this part does not last forever.

The igniter looks like a 2 inch tall element (similar to what is inside an incandescent light bulb but flat, like a large paperclip) mounted on a square base that is attached to 6 inches of wrapped wires that ends in a two prong male plug.

Hot surface igniters are very delicate and the igniter part should not be touched by human hands because the oil on our hands will damage the surface (just like a halogen bulb).

    +

Here is the write up …

    • Service call on a Rheem 80+ furnace.

    • Found cracked hot surface igniter.

    • Replaced igniter and cleaned fame sensor.

    +

    $079.95 = service call
    $040.00 = ½ hour labor at $80.00 / hour
    $065.00 = hot surface igniter

    $184.95 = total
