1989 Mazda MPV Fuel Vapor Separator Fix? Bypass?

I'm pretty sure it's probably the fuel vapor separator behind the right rear trim panel (I've found there was a recall on these because it can crack and release fuel vapors into the interior:eek:). Any chance I can just remove it and plug the lines going to it? At least for the time being? If the worst thing it will do is make the check engine light come on, that's no big deal. I have a '93 MPV (rear ABS) that is displaying some odd braking behavior. When I pump the brakes, the pedal travels slowly to the floor (it goes farther with each pump) until it bottoms out. Then the idiot light comes on. When I release the brakes, the braking returns to normal and the light...
