View Full Version : I need your help with smoking

Well I haven't had a cigi since 8am this morning it was the last one now I've tried on numerous occasions to quit smoking and I'm just not flipping strong enough to do it I always cave in.
Now I know there's no easy way to do this and I have to admit boy am I feeling dizzy and funny but I can't give in I need to do this for millie not just for myself.
So is there anyone out there with any words of wisdom and don't what ever you do lecture me on what's in a cigi it won't do a thing the women at the clinic tried that and I just laughed and said look I already have arsonic in me so that's really not going to scare me into stopping. I want support not a telling off after all I'm an adult not a pubescent teen.
Thank in advance hugs
Laura

Laura,
I hope you can do this. I too would like to quit, but with the stress of school and all I find it hard.
I am not going to give you the lecture, I hear it from Rae all the time.
My mother-in-law sucked on Jolly Rancher Candies every time she wanted one, that helped her quit.
I may just have to try it with you!!
I'll think about it tomorrow. LOL

Thing is I don't actually enjoy it anymore I do it to stay calm so that's the problem I need to find another way to channel my stress...

Hey Laura,
Guess who is in the same boat as you?? Yup, Good ole Allheart. What I did was I made a calendar and each day I made a goal of how many cigarettes I would allow myself. I started at 16. However, because I was conscious of when I was smoking I actually came in under the goal. I am now down to for a day. That is in about a week and half's time.
Oh the first week I was so sick and dizzy. When I got the urge for a cig, I popped a cough drop in my mouth and drank lots of water. It really does help.
There is also a medicine, which I am not on, that helps with the withdraw, but I do not think it is available in the UK so I will not even tease you with it, but maybe there is something comparable in the UK.
Laura, we can do this. I am so determined. My doc told me that I look fine now, but in 5 years I will look actually 10 years older than I am. Uh, no thanks, the heck with my lungs, I refuse to look older that I am…hee hee. Just kiddn, but my doc actually did say that.
We can be quit buddies if you like. There is no way I could go cold turkey. But that is just me. Laura to be honest, as I am lowering the number of cigs a day, I am getting to the point where I don't even want to smoke the whole thing. Honest. As the levels of nicotine lessen in my system, so does my desire to have one.
After the first week, the urges were a lot less. But we are fighting it on two fronts, physical addiction and then the habit addiction.
What do you think about setting daily goals. Make a calendar, maybe just for a week, and start with a reasonable number. Normally I would smoke about 20 to 23 a day. So I started my goal at 16.
I am here for you Laura, we are going to kick these cigs!! See, that is where I am with it. I am sick of it. I don't enjoy it and nobody loves us smokers anymore :(. So I just thought now is the time to kick some serious cigarette butt :)
I will be here for both you and J_9. We are stronger than those blasted cigarettes.!

Laura,
I quit not that long ago... (in 2002) and I swear I want a cigi everyday. I now eat tick tacks or some other breath mint when I want a cigi... or chew on a toothpick... no kidding there is something about it resting against my lip that calms my craving. You can do it!! Whatever you do... when you give in and have one... don't beat yourself up over it... just chalk it up to an oops and start all over again trying.
It took me like 6 months of slowly decreasing my number until finally I was like enough is enough... and I have not smoked since January 2002.

I actually think that's the only way I'm going to do it to gradually not smoke because the thought of just stopping scares the wits out of me.
I really like allhearts advice and I'm certainly going to give it a go.
We just have to find a way for ben to do the same too he has smoked a lot longer than I have though but we can all do it can't we.

j_9 what I did was when I decided what my goal was ( 16 to start) that is all that I put in my pack. 16 that is it. j_9 you know you can do this... :):)
Tuscany, it is so good to hear someone else weened themselves off. Most people say they went cold turkey, not me... no way. But it worked for them. Thanks for sharing, it makes me more determined :)

Laura, my hubby smokes too. And he desires to quit as well. He is going to see the docs for the medicine that helps with the withdraw. So I bet Ben will follow your lead. And don't worry if you think Ben smoking will entice you to smoke, it won't. Well, it didn't for me. When I was winding down, and hubby was smoking, it didn't entice me at all. It kind of stunk... PU :) LOL.
I will tell you guys that I was not feeling very well the first week. A little dizzy, a little shakey and confused. Hubby would tell you all, that's just me normally :):) I tell you all this so you are not concerned and I promise you it passes :)
Oh I am excited for all of us. My calendar is right on my fridge. And each day I get a nice star for going below goal. But remember, only put in the number of cigs for that day.
Pretty soon, we are all going to be one of those Ex smokers that just haunts the heck out of smokers trying to get them to quit... hee hee. I hope I don't get like that.
My best to all :):)

All heart- My friend just quit in November by gradually decreasing the amount that she smoke... then she labeled a pack "last pack." When that was done so was she. She has not smoked since then... and she has more then enough reason to start again... she found her boyfriend of 15 years in bed with another woman. She stayed strong. I was so impressed.

Good for her. That is such a shame. So glad she stayed strong. Why should she hurt herself even more? Oh my.

Jan 11, 2007, 10:51 AM
You go, girls! If at first you don't succeed, keep on suckin' till you do succeed. Quitting more than once is OK, as long as quitting is what you do last. It's harder for some people than for others, that's true. Life is not fair. The real question isn't how hard it is, but how bad you want to quit. When you want to quit more than you want to smoke, it will be easy. As far as cutting down gradually vs. cold turkey, it's not a moral issue, it's what works for you. Keep us posted. I volunteer to cheer as needed.
curlybenswife
Jan 11, 2007, 10:58 AM
Oh ill need cheering on all right hehehehehe anyone else going to join our little bandwagon??
J_9
Jan 11, 2007, 10:58 AM
Well, I could use a cheer right now! I just finished lunch and would LOVE that after lunch smoke. But I will hold out!!
I have no problem getting through an 8 or 12 hour shift at the hospital without having one. I don't have a problem while in school, the drive up there is an hour and we don't smoke in the car.
My problem is when I am studying, doing homework, and talking to Laura!!
Allheart
Jan 11, 2007, 11:09 AM
Thanks OG, you are so right. When going through the "fun" of quitting, it is the strong desire to quit that gets you through the urges.
j_9, Rah Rah, put the ciggy down :)
j_9, what I did was stayed within my numbers for the day, and as the days were progressing, gradually removed the most enjoyable times. Such as after eating. Aren't they the best cigs after eating? Now I refuse to have one after meals.
But OG is so right, the success of quitting and how to quit is unique as the person. But for me, thinking of cold turkey made me spin like a top.
Also, when I only wanted a couple of puffs, I purposely asked hubby for one of his (who doesn't smoke the same as me) so it would be less enjoyable.
As I started to wean down, I noticed I didn't want to smoke the whole thing, so I would put it out and save it for the next time I needed a couple of puffs.
I really just got so tired of being a prisoner to the stinkin things!!
We can and will do this!!
J_9
Jan 11, 2007, 11:13 AM
Most of the time I light one and it burns out because I forgot that I had one lit while studying or whatever.
Sometimes just holding an unlit one in my fingers gets me through the cravings, then I put it back in the pack. Sometimes it is just the psychological part that can be hard.

Jan 11, 2007, 11:15 AM
I quit with the first of the year, and it's AWFUL! Right now I don't CARE what the long term benefits are... because the long term benefits are not helping NOW!
The only thing stopping me from lighting up is how much it would disappoint my husband.
Get some soda straws. Sucking/chewing on them has helped me some.
Tuscany
Jan 11, 2007, 11:15 AM
Exactly. I remember driving to work and passing the road where I would normally light a up, I would crave something fierce... But it was all in my head. Humans are such creatures of habit.

Way to go girls! Glad to hear someone has willpower!
I went to the doctor in November to help me get on something to quit smoking! (I guess I am tired of the doctor lecturing me every time I went in for a sinus infection or bronchitis).
He prescribed Chantix. It consists of (2) 12 week courses. Each course is a little over $100.00. When he prescribed it to me, it was too close to Christmas to stop (I know... an excuse)! With my next paycheck... I will go pick up my prescription (1/18/07). I have quit several times. The last 2 times I tried to quit I gained 10 pounds:eek: the first time and 15 pounds:eek: the second time (that was in a matter of 2 to 3 months time)! Being single yet, I can't afford to gain weight! Chantix is a new drug and he says that it has an appetite suppressant in it!:D Also, this drug is to help you gradually quit smoking. My dad teases me and tells me the only way to do it is cold turkey! But... I can't!
Good luck to you all and keep me informed!!

I don't smoke, but I love to eat. I swear trying not to snack between meals is just as hard as not smoking!! You guys may laugh, but when a person tries to lose 10 lbs--it is hard as $hit for me.
I have tried everything, diet pills, sucking on $hit, so on and so forth. So if you all don't mind I'm going to stick here with you with the eating thing instead of the smoking thing. Cause right now I am starving and I am looking a quarter vending machine thinking about those M & M's and would love a handful.
I have tried a big glass of water when I am hungry and I feel like I am floating!!
So you go girls with your non-smoking and I will go girl with the snacking and trying to lose weight. God!! One pound would feel good right now and I cannot even do that. Errrr
Have a good day gals!!

Running around like mad, forgot my cough drops, already in the supermarket, did the weekly shopping, made a cheesecake, and all I reallllly want to do, is stay here with all of you and smoke smoke smoke... boy feel weak today.
But... I am going to the docs today to find out about a brain transplant... that my do the trick. However, if my insuranace will not cover this medical procedure, and divorce is not an option at the moment (poor hubby is getting on my nerves.. (he left the seat up... oh that's another thread, never mind.:):)... then I will see about this wonder medicine everyone is talking about. I will let you know what the doc says.

Hi Bim,
So glad to hear from you. I was thinking about you as well.
Bim, everyone is different and we have to find what works best for us. What works for me as far as eating, is once again, I can not "deprive" myself. So, for me to think I am going on a diet, well only makes me want to eat all the more.
What I do during the week, is I am very disciplined. I will have a breakfast bar for breakfast, eat a very light lunch (yogurt) and a Lean Cuisine for dinner. Now that is
During the week and then I work out, lightly as well. Then on the weekend, I am less restrictive, so I pretty much eat what I wish on the weekends. This way, I am not always dieting and it's pretty much a forever type of thing.
This way, during the week, when you are eating light and healthy, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and come the weekend, you can bring out those M & Ms that you love and not feel bad about it as Monday, you will go right back to eating in a more disciplined way.
Does this make sense? It does work for me.
And the worse mistake you can make is no breakfast. You really should have a little something. It will help your energy and you won't be so famished by lunch.
12 days, no cigarette.
But....I ate a pint of Ben & Jerry's last night. I swear to you, it was calling me from the freezer. It BEGGED me to eat it! I swear!
12 days... THAT'S INCREDIBLE... :) How do you feel?
BIM

That is a good idea. Maybe I will work on that. It is so true that when you say you are on a diet--it makes you want to eat all the more.
Thank you for the advice. I do feel a little better today, I worked out Sunday - Tuesday and then Thursday.
One day at a time.

There you go Bim. Really when I would think for the next 30 days I can not have this or that... okay stop the train, I want to get off, but when I know for 5 days, if I am very disciplined, then for 2 days, I can relax it a little and I can have those things I really enjoy (in moderation of course :) then it becomes a lifelong way of eating.

In a word or less. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LoL
Actually, I do feel better at smoking the 4 or 5 then the 20 to 23. And here is the kicker, I have asthma. So you see, not so bright am I... Oh my. Anyway, my asthma is 100% better (Oh I can hear j_9 now... eeek ) I know it was and/or is more than bizarre for me to smoke with asthma, but it was adult onset asthma, so may I please request that as an excuse. Ugh. Since I have cut it down to 4 or 5, I have not had to use my rescue inhaler, hmmm wonder if there is a connection.
Thanks for asking BIM. Keep at it and get yourself some breakfast. :)

12 days...THAT'S INCREDIBLE...:) How do you feel?
Frankly, I feel completely insane. I lost it a couple days ago and ranted at my husband for about 2 hours about the injustices of the world (all having to do with ME personally, of course), then I broke down and cried. I felt better after that, though.
I have the stupids a lot (you know... where you go to say something, and not only do you lose your train of though, you forget that there was a train to being with?), but I'm really lucky to have a husband that supports me 100%.
We're going together this weekend to join a health club, and shopping together tonight to have snacks in the house that are good, but not so fattening or unhealthy as pints of Ben & Jerrys. He's not a big fruit and veggie eater, and I've been craving sweets. Any suggestions for sweet sort of stuff that isn't HORRIBLE for you?
(This thread, by the way, has been a godsend. Every time I think of lighting up, I can come here)

Ah, I won't eeek to loudly Allheart as I have child onset asthma. I only need my rescue inhaler one week a year and it is usually in October.
Also, remember I had cancer, so your turn to eeek!! However, my oncologist said to take it one step at a time. Let's make sure I am cured of the cancer then go on to the next step.
Baby steps he called them.
Also, remember nicotine is a drug, just like alcoholics, we can only take it one day at a time.

I have heard that even after a few days of not smoking a person feels better, is there any truth to that?
That had to have come from a non-smoker, saying that after a day or two they feel better about the smokers around them not smoking or something. I still don't feel any better/happier/healthier/whatever than I did before I quit. But... we're trying to get pregnant, and aren't having any luck, and I had heard the biggest factor in infertility is smoking... so no more smoking! Gah. It'll be worth it in the end, but focusing on the end is really hard when you have to get through a stressful day at work, or deal with drama in the family or any of the other reasons I used to light a cigarette.

Synnen,
You had me laughing and so glad hubby is supportive. Mine is too, in an annoying way. LOL. He pretends to walk around very gingerly around me, like he has to walk on eggshells.. oh he's a character LOL.
Keep at it, I am looking up to you and counting on you as you are several steps ahead of the rest of us. No pressure though :)
Have you ever tried the 100 calorie pack goodies. They really are good. They are made by Nabisco. They have them at the grocery store, I think they would be in the cracker isle.
But they have everything from chees nips to choc chip cookies. And the whole pack is only 100 calories. Really satisfies the sweet tooth.
You are doing great. I just had to laugh. As I know what you mean with the "stupid moments". My brain is just not working, the words are stuck somewhere. I feel like wearing a sign, "TRYING TO STOP SMOKING, CLOSED FOR REPAIRS. PLEASE TRY BACK IN 6 WEEKS." SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE. NOW GO AWAY. :)"

Allheart, I NEED THAT SIGN! What's cool is how supportive everyone has been, from hubby to family to here at work--and now you! If I do something really dumb, they're all covering for me!
I'll look for those... lately, it's been the Special K bars (only 70 calories per... the problem is eating just ONE) and cookies. I used to work in a bakery, and I HATE cookies, but I'm eating them all the darn time!

Oh you will. I promise you. I actually do better when I have to focus on something. I guess because I am trying hard to focus, so it makes me more focused. Does that make sense?? Ahhhh.
And you are used to not smoking at school so, it will feel very normal to you.

Hi Everyone,
How did all of you do today? I had 5 cigarettes today. Not happy with that. But guess that means there is room for improvement.
Doctor was THRILLED with my decision to stop smoking and how I have cut it down to 5. I think it was the first time a doctor was ever happy with me as I am not the best patient.
He prescribed "Chantix". Which is a medicine that assist in stopping smoking. I think it is a 6 week plan. Side effects?? Only nausea, changes in dreaming, constipation, gas and/or vomiting... YIPPEE :(. Well, I will give it a go. I start tomorrow. It comes in a starter pack which is very easy to follow. For the first week, you can smoke, but the doc said then the next week you have to stop, and actually the medicine makes smoking very undesirable, I guess it does if you are experiencing nausea, constipation and gas; who feels like doing anything under those conditions... ugh! But I am still determined.
Hope you all are as well.
Was thinking of all of you!

Okay... that whole changes in dreaming thing? That happens just with pulling the nicotine out of your system. The first week I quit was HELL. I couldn't stay asleep for long periods, and when I DID sleep, I had really strange dreams, many of them nightmares.
Getting through the first week wasn't that hard except for that. The second week has been hard because now it's ALL habits, and not the nicotine (or lack thereof) screaming at me anymore. I carry hard candies at all times, and make sure I ALWAYS have something to chew on... gum, soda straws, toothpicks, pencils, whatever. I feel angry and forgetful almost all of the time... but I finally also have started feeling like I'm accomplishing something. I held a cigarette in my hands today, and though I KNEW no one but me would know about it if I lit it... I didn't. I threw it out.
If I could do it, you can too! I'm cheering you all on! You're my support group on this, so if there's anything I can help any of y'all get through, let me know, and I'm so there.

Ah yes we have that medication here I tried it about 6 years ago and I'm afraid it didn't make me sick just shudder a bit so I never actually stopped smoking.
I wish you all the best with it though Allheart you never know you might just succeed and seeing as in your mind your already thinking yuck the pills might just push that over the top.
I had 6 yesteerday today screw it its none I'm not going to go buy anymore unless I become real nasty.

Laura that is great. That is exactly what I feel like doing today. Just throwing them down and saying enough! :) You can do this!! Wish I didn't have any in the house too. Hey, if you get nasty, you get nasty, it will pass.
I am really scared to take this medicine, so why am I?? Cause I am a ding dong. Well, I guess my thinking is, if I get sick enough off the medicine than maybe I will get sick of the whole thing and that thought will put me over this final hurdle. Plus, I feel so bad, hubby went to get the perscription for me, and here, my insurance didn't cover it, so it cost $90.00. I felt so bad when he came out of the store. But like hubby said, just look at how much we will be saving in not buying cigarates. He was so kind about it, so I have to give it a try. He received a perscription for it as well, but he is going to wait to see how I do, plus I don't think he reached the point of the strong desire to quit. He has the desire, so if he sees me quit, hopefully that will be incentive for him. He keeps telling me how proud he is of me... awwww. Oh I still feel awful about the $90.00. I had no idea the insurance wouldn't cover it. But the pharmisist told him, the medicine is new over here.
To be honest right now that huge urge to smoke is gone. It is just the habit and the "comfort" we get from smoking that has me tempted to light up.
Stay strong Laura! Just think how great it will be to finally be free of these things :)

Too funny - sure beats having to be under the stairs. Okay everyone at AMHD be on your very best behaviour!!
No way we can't beat these now.
Laura, how are you doing so far today?
Me. Not so good. Had 3 already. Buuuut here's why:
- Found a quick way to make scrambled eggs. When I put the dozen of eggs in the fridge door , I didn't do a very good job, so when I opened up the fridge door again, yup, a tumble they went... Instant scrambled eggs. Yeh!!
- Was out an about running errands. Going somewhat near the speed limit:rolleyes: , and lo and behold, there was a friendly police officer. Who, decided to make a U - turn, drive behind me, put on his siren and lights, oh my heart!! But then he turned off and went chasing after someone else. But did I light up? No, as I don't smoke in the car, so I just ran the car off the road, but hey, I didn't light up :)
After completeing my errands, I got out of my car, and noticed that someone else needed my hubcap to my rear tire more than I did. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I wish them well with it. Perhaps they will be back to claim the other 3 so they will have a full set.
I just bought a SadDisk e200 MP3 player, so I can take walks instead of smoking. Good thought right? Well, I am not very technical, soooooo, I needed the assistance of the tech support team, as I could not shut the darn thing off. Well, after being on hold for 45 minutes, I was informed, I need to hold the menu button down for 30 seconds... yippee I feel like a fool :) Oh my.
Ben, welcome. Care for some scrambled eggs? LOL

Okay here it goes. I SWEAR not to lecture you on the reason not to smoke. I got enough of that to last me a life time from my little well meaning cherubs. I smoked heavy. Almost a pack a day. I wouldn't smoke in front of my kids or in the house. It didn't seem to really bother anyone. Thenh they started school. And the lectures started. And continued and continued. Then one day I realized my smoking scared my boys. I was outside smoking on the front porch when my oldest knocked on the door from the inside. When I looked he held up a paper he'd gotten from school for drug awareness week. Listing the importance of not smoking.
I actually saw tears in their eyes because of me smoking. I never left so giulty in my life. So the next day, all 3 of us went to the drug store. My oldest was sure I'd ask for cigarettes. But I surprised him by asking for the nicorete gum. I chewed it whenever I needed to and managed to stop smoking. Whenever I get the strong urge to smoke, I can't help seeing their faces in my head that fateful day. It's a big deterrent to keep me on the wagon. Every no and then I chew a piece of that gum or suck on a mini tootsie pop. By the time Im finished my craving for the smoke is passed.
You'll get craving ticks all the time. In the beginning they're stronger and the longer you go without smoking the weaker they get.
You need to quit the ways that's best for you. That's anyway you can and that makes you feel good about yourself. Feeling proud of your accomplishment. Feeling so confident you can move mountains. Feeling it easier to breathe and fewer chest colds not to mention sinus infections(my biggest problem).
I always treated myself to something special for every week I went without a smoke. Whether it be a movie or a pair of earrings. It was my reward for succeeding. Ive haven't smoked since 2004 and I feel good. I can keep up with my kids and I joined a gym all bebcause I quit smoking.
It'll be hard the first 2 -3 days but stick with it the results are worth it. I'm proud of the fact you're asking for advice.
Keep up the good work and I'll say a prayer for you.

best of luck to all of you!
I haven't smoked in over two months now. It was tough at first, I had terrible cravings.
I have been having acupuncture and acupressure though, and it has helped a huge amount.
I don't crave cigarettes so much now. I do miss the habit. I miss the crutch of it.
I have been mighty irritable and shorttempered. And my body is still reacting to being nicotine free.
it's a tough decision, but a liberating one. I didn't think about being a non-smoker. I became fed up being a smoker, and decided that from the outside, looking at my lifestyle and my habits, didn't reflect who I wanted to be. It was a moment of low confidence, and I decided to change one thing I could physically, tangibly change. Each day was just a day, and gradually my ideas about cigarettes changed - I didn't want to smoke. I still accompany friends on cigarette breaks, I still accept that any minute I could be a smoker again, and I'm trying to become more healthy. Change of habit = change of outlook.
hope some of this is some help. There's no point giving yourself a hard time about it. Yes you will want to smoke. But feel that want and accept it. Whinge about it if needs be, but let it wash around you and wear off.
good luck xx

So far I had one today. I made another calendar. Today's goal ifs 4 ( I am so good to myself.. hee hee). Then next Sat. is my official quit day. With the meds you have to pick
A Quit day. I am hoping to quit fully before then, but I knew today would not be the day as it's Mother-in-law day (every Sunday is ). May need to revise the calendar for today and raise it to 44. Where is my correction fluid??

But... I can't!
Good luck to you all and keep me informed!!!
Hey Single4,
I just reread this. That is what my doc put me on too. I am on day 2 of the Chantix pack.
I don't feel any effects yet, but I think the doc said I wouldn't until week 2.
Check in when you can. Okay?

Jan 14, 2007, 10:32 PM
Forget about the weight gain for now. The money you'll save after quitting smoking you can use it as a down payment for a gym membership. If you need an incentive, I'll send my boys over with their papers on the evils of smoking. They keep them hidden so I can't fnd them and toss them in the trash can. I hope Johnnie is feeling better allheart. Both of mine have been sick all week. Its this nasty weather you don't kn ow how to dress your kids from one day to the next. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EVERYONE!! One cig isn't an entire pack. Besides all you did is see what you were missing. The yuckie factor is a good deterrent. In my case my one cig after quitting made me worship the pocelian budha.

I wish I could help you Synnen, I still don't know why I moved back to jersey from Texas. The people and the weather were soooooooo much nicer there. Not to mention my skin was never clear or dewier. But that's that.
I hope everyone's Monday is going fast. Mine is still beginning. I have to take 2 sick kids to the doctors today and they're oooohhh so thrilled about missing the fairy odd parents to go. If only the knew they were living with the Odd parents. As in they'll slide on the ice and I'll slide on it right behind them just to hear them laugh.
I'M taking your advice Alheart about tapering down. My case I ve got a bad addiction to coca cola classic. Diet cola as well I literally go through 1 1/2 2 liter bottles a day. I got my inspiration from all of you.:D

Allheart, honey... you're doing awesome anyway! I mean, I don't HAVE any, or I would have smoked a pack today! You actually have some there, and you STILL only had 2!
When we make it through this, we're all going out to dinner in Tokyo or someplace with the money we save! (no husbands allowed, of course)

He's probably just envious that you're doing it!
*I* think you're doing great. Keep it up!
PS... mine was a jerk the first time I tried to quit, a couple years ago. That ended with me screaming at him, and slamming out the door to go buy a carton of cigarettes. I think he wants me to quit more than I want to quit this time, so he's not pushing my buttons.

Honey... you're doing as much for me as I am for you, if not more.
Your husband is just being smart and trying not to do or say the wrong thing, which you have to admit would be just about anything right now. /grin
You're doing awesome! You've made it all day! It feels like hell though, doesn't it? It will get worse yet--I won't lie to you. But it gets better too! Well, okay... not better. Easier is a more accurate word.
Give yourself some chocolate. You deserve it.

Omg j_9!! How terrible. I'll say a prayer and I hope he gets better quickly. Kids bounce back quickly. 3 cigs are nothing anyway. Allheart I feel for you. mr. chippers keeps asking me when I'm going to put the wash away. I told him I'm waiting for it to grow legs and put itself away. Silently thinking why he can't do it. Then I remember I'm talking about to a man(present company online excluded).
The house was too quiet today after the kids went back to school after being home sick for a week. I've had 4 glasses of coca cola today and that's down from 7. I had a head ache and felt a little sluggish but it went away after a while.
You're quitting smoking is inspiring me to give up caffeine. If I can get down to one caffeinated soda (I don't drink coffee or hot tea) in the morning I'll be happy. So you're strength gives me strength. ;)

Try putting sugar free gummie bears in the frig before eatting them. It takes longer to chew them and your desire for a smoke has passed. Curly, I would never suspect you of being nasty. Considering what you're going through to stay healthy no one has any right to quible.
Keep up the good work. Beth

Ah I love gummie bears but they hate my teeth I shouldn't even be eating sweets lol.
I may well be going through what id call with drawl hell but I also keep reminding myself that I put myself there in the first place I can't even remember why I started smoking in the first place but I sure wish I had'nt.
Hugs to your Beth hope your day is being enjoyable xx

Good morning you.
(Am I the only one in this thread that's in the States?)
Grats on all those 0s! Rock on!
J_9... hope your little guy is feeling better. Grats on only 3!
Oh god... give up caffeine? Not on your life. I'll DIE before I give up my coffee. /shudder I think not having caffeine is a harder quit!
I woke up with a sore throat today... and it made me realize that it's the first time since I quit that I had any sort of cold symptom, so there IS a plus side!

Morning there Synnen :) Me too, I just love my caffiene. Coffee in the AM, diet coke in the PM :) But our good friend Chippers needs us as she would like to cut her intake in half... Go Chippers.
Laura and Millie, hopefully are taking a little nap like angels :)
I'm still at 0. Been rough, but you guys are so helping. Mr. Allheart - That's another story.
We are off today and I was buzzing around the house singing "Fly me to the moon...lal lalal" and he sings back "your half way there"... grrrrrrr.
Love to all and many hugs. Keep up the great work!! And thanks so much for being there. I would have given in hours ago.

Allheart... 0 is awesome! Way to go!
My boss just walked by and asked how the not smoking is going, and then congratulated me. It's great to have support here at work, since this is where I would do a lot of my smoking :)

I did have a caffienated soda this am. I drank it from a coffee cup as I always do in the am. I figure if I can get down to 2 caffienated sodas I'll be fine. As for the withdrawl from smoking you should be close to the end of the detox. That's a hard thing to do curly and all heart. I'm proud of all of you for the strength you're showing and your determination. Your bodies will thank you for it.
I'm the same way in the morning synnen. Nothing seems clear or better tolerated until I've had my soda. I face 2 cranky kids in the morning to get ready for school. I used to do allot of my smoking at work too. So I can appreciate how it feels when someone you work with supports your effort. It does mean a llot.
By the way, I'm from New Jersey. Blimey curly, I would've never guesed you were from England.
(just kidding) take a nap. I swear on the goddess rule book never to tell.
Sweet dreams Beth
