    Washer/dryer hook-up
Forn years, washers and dryer hook-ups were installed by plumber in new construction with the washer on the left and the dryer on the right.( facing both) However in our new home, the washer and dryer hook-ups were installed the opposite. Washer on the right, dryer on the left. When we asked the plumber he said that was the way it is done these days. Several friends with new homes were done the same way. ( all with different plumbers) For most washers and sryer on the market that arrangement is backwards. Why is it now done that way?

Not sure if I can answer but does it really matter cause you still have to hook up each and you have to deal with what you. BTW, my home is 22 yrs old. washer on my right and dryer on my left but I can put them the opposite way. Cord for the dryer can be purchased in larger than normal lengths, vents can be run almost anywhere w/ a few exceptions, hot and cold water hoses can be purchased in larger than normal lengths. Only issue might be the 110V cord to the washer.

I just inherited my sister's 8 year old washer and dryer (gas). The super came by and told us he would need to replace some of the hook-ups, for a total of $170. That seems a little bit expensive.
