My husband started of the back of his truck, it grew and grew and grew. Then we ended up moving and sold his big business to a friend. Anyway, what he did was just start by doing a few a month and then word of mouth got around a holy cow it all started there. This was about 6 years ago, now everyone goes on line to find help with yards and so on, I would suggest something like putting an add on Craigslist or something to that effect. What about some of the people you know, anyone need some help. Offer the same price to everyone, except for maybe grandma. Just start slow, it will come. Good luck to you!

I think you are giving way too much credit to the internet and finding someone to do their yards, You basically start with a truck, and knocing on doors. Or use local newspapers that have their paper online, still where most people go for lawn care.

Yes, Fr_Chuck I guess I did it again. (Computers) But like I said, my husband started in the back of his truck and word of mouth, I just think if you can post a free ad online then maybe it would help him out too! Good luck and get mowing!

I liked startover22's first answer above. If you do a Google search for Clough Quad Cities, then you will find ads for my various businesses dominating the first three or four pages in the search. Do a search for the what I do, leave out my name, and you will still get the same result. All of these ads are free. If you take a look at how I have worded them, then you will get an idea how you could word yours.

I am listed in the Yellow Pages of the phone book for my two prime businesses. Also, I do occasionally list myself in a local newspaper. But, I still get more calls because of people who have found my ads on the Internet.

Door-to-door is good also. Carry your business cards with you at all times and bring up what you do in casual conversation. See if a local gardening shop or nursery might let you leave some of your cards there for their customers to take.

Develop a reputation, and the word will spread.

If I was to go into the lawn care business, I would first learn everything that I could about lawn care. Read books, maybe join a local Horticulture Club, ask a lot of questions of people who know about lawns. You would also need to know about the diseases that might happen to a lawn.

Of course you will need a truck and all the other equipment that goes into the care and maintenance of lawns.

I have no affiliation with the following site other than I've found it useful for some tips for home lawncare...

    http://www.lawnsite.com/index.php

It is another forum site, like AMHD, but they have sections specifically driven toward business owners and those who are interested in starting up.

Again, I really can't say whether the info is reliable, but it has helped me on a few occasions and its bookmarked in my gardening and homecare favs.

    Hope it helps.
