    Flabby Belly
I just wondered if anyone would be able to give me any advice i have recently joined the gym as i badly want to lose weight at the moment i weight 264lbs and have already lost 2 stone (28lbs) before joining the gym... I really wanted to get rifd of my flabby belly and lose some weight off my boobs cos there huge (some people would say i was lucky but its too uch hassle) ... My question is ...is there anything i can do to make my stomach smaller ..I eat a low fat diet mainly with Fish , chicken and turkey and i eat wholemeal bread , pasta and eat Branflake cereals and i eat brown basmalti rice...Semi Skimmed or Skimmed Milk and 2 portions of fruit a day with unlitmited vegetables and or course sometimes i have the odd treat and i drink at least 2 litres of water per day .. I understand its eating habits as well as exercise but i need help haha.

Any advice would be great... Im not very fit but the more time i spend at the gym the more i am getting fitter at the moment i do aslong as time allows on the recumbent bike , as long as time allows walking on the teadmill and 3 set of ten leg lifts on the swiss ball + 2/3 aqua class a week and swim at least 8/10 lengths at least 3/5 times a week.

You sound like your off to a GREAT start, you diet sounds outstanding and your working hard. It takes time and patience to get a flat stomach, you need proper nutrition, aerobic exercise, abdominal training and weight training. When you burn fat for energy you draw it from all areas of the body. Just keep up the exercise program, add more exercises, different kinds. One of the keys to burning fat is aerobics, walking, jogging, biking, ellipitical exercise, stair climbing, just to name a few. The swimming and threadmills are excellent! The key to maxium fat loss is 30-60 minutes, 4-5 times a week. Abdominal fat losss is 50% nutrition and 50% exercise. A lower body fat percentage comes from healthy and steady weight loss, of 3 pounds a week, slowly lowering body fat = permanent weight control, limiting weight regain. Water helps boost your metabolism by increasing oxygen levels and 2-3 servings of skim milk (1-2%), non fat yogurt, and part skim, or lowfat cheese (1 1/2 oz/ will also help. People who include dairy lose more weight and body fat, they also lost more fat in the abdominal area. Calcium regulates energy metabolism-increase fat breakdown and decreases the amount of body fat. Keep up the great work and your'll find your goals are attainable, just be patient!! ;)

Thanks very much for your advice... Its great to know that I am doing the right things.. If there any particluar classes that you would recommend i.e . Kickboxing , pilates , spinning etc...

My weight has hit a plateau right now so I'm hoping it will start moving again really soon. As long as I'm on my way to a flatish stomach I'm really happy with that.

    Thanks again..

    Hi Teresa,

It does sound like you're doing the right stuff, but I've found that the exercises and diet that help with general fitness don't always shift the weight around your tummy. (I always liked to think I had rock hard stomach muscles hidden under a layer of padding.) It turns out that I wasn't far wrong - conventional stomach routines do firm up the muscles but that doesn't mean you necessarily get rid of the layer on top

Anyway - I've started blogging about stuff like this... take a look if you're still wondering!
