    An authoritative source for such questions is American Kennel Club - akc.org I couldn't find them in the disappointing Simon and Schuster guide I have. What you will find the AKC breed standard. Dogs may still be outside that range, they will just be disqualified from showing. If you haven't gotten a dog yet, I hope you take great care in selecting one. Ones from the pet store can be a disaster. If you already have a puppy, read through the sticky at the top of the dog forum. Mini Dachshunds don't know they are smaller than many of the dogs I know, and behave about the same.

    My mini daschund weighs 15 pounds, but it varys because some mini's are really small and some like mine aren't, my sister has one that is only 10 pounds. If you haven't yet got one, let me warn you, they are the most difficultest breed of dog to house train. And they are extreamly stubborn.
