What does a thinning renal cortex mean
The radiologist says I have a thinning renal cortex. I'm 56 years old and she says that's unusual for someone my age. What does it mean and are there ways I can take care of myself that will stop any damage or improve my situation?

Since thinning of the renal cortex is not a disease in and of itself, you would need to find out what the underlying cause is.

Do you have a history of kidney infections? How about high blood pressure?

The thinning is actually a symptom of another problem. Without knowing your history, it's hard to advise further.

Thanks, I had malnutrition until I was 5 months old and repeated kidney infections until I was 6 years old. I've always had lots of lower back aches. Your info is helpful and lets me at least know not to panic until I can get in with my Dr.

Was there any mention of hydronephrosis?

Are you seeing a nephrologist? If not, you should seek a consult from one.

No one said anything about it yet. Is a Nephrologist and Kidney Dr. Will call tomorrow and talk to my regular Dr or get an appointment to see him.

Yes, a nephrologist is a kidney doctor. You should get a referral to one for the best kidney care.
