    Condenser fan motor replacement wiring
My problem is the wiring, the new motor has one more wire than the old one. I had yellow, brown, black on the old one. The new one has Brown, Brown w/ white stripe, black, white and green(ground). According to cross references this motor is a replacement, but I'm not sure what to do with the extra wire. Do I have to order new capacitor? I have 3 prong capacitor

The two brown wires go to the capacitor and the black and white wires go to power on each side of contactor. On run capacitors there is a mark on one terminal and that is where the brown/ white stripe wire goes, but it's not that important. If you had a three terminal capacitor do not use it with new motor; use a new capacitor that has proper rating. Just leave the terminal on the three terminal capacitor that went to fan with nothing on it. If you did not get a new capacitor when you bought the motor then you need to buy one as using the old one will void warranty and can cause the motor to fail. Get the right microfarads and voltage for the new one. You can go higher on voltage, but the capacitor has to be within 5% of capacity, which means it should be an exact replacement on Mfds. I am surprised you got a motor without a new capacitor since this voids warranty. Keep the receipts to prove you bought both.
