    Theft under 5000, second offense
Hey there, I'm at 22 year old student living in Newfoundland, Canada.I was recently placed under arrest for the second time in the last 6 months for theft under $5000. When I was caught I was totally compliant to everything they asked and they were very kind to me. The first time I was caught I went to court and was given absolute discharge ( thank god ). But this time I'm aware that everything is going to be more harsh. I'm terrified about what is going to happen to me when I go back to court in two weeks. I've done the research about kleptomania and everything I have researched has indicated that it's a compulsion and they often have the money to pay for what they're taking but this is not the case with me. I'm broke and it's Christmas. It was stupid and I fully intend to take responsibility for my actions. Anybody out there know what is probably going to happen to me?

Unfortunately, you may be looking at, if lucky, probation but you need to look for help.

First your first discharge could well be at risk. How long were you required to stay out of trouble. Normally you are required to not get back into trouble. So it is possible that your first crime

But this time there will be no first offender program and at sentencing they will be aware of your first crime so they will look at this more serious.

I would still expect probation and a large fine. Please don't go trying to make excuses for why you chose to steal.

Yeah, it was supposed to be a year. So I just want to know how much the fine is. I actually just contacted some therapists so hopefully I won't get into trouble like this again :(
