    Defending a person being assaulted
Recently my girlfriend was assaulted in her apartment by another man. I was there and when she told him to leave he refused, and then started pushing her around. All I did was grab the guy and push him out the door. Now she's being evicted and I'm being sued... Because I put my hands on him. What are the laws on this and how can I defend my actions? My father taught me you don't put your hands on a woman, and she is my girl and that's not right, and I don't think what's happening to us is right. Please help.

Not nearly enough information. First, where is this. Second, did she file a police report or charges for him 'pusing her around and refusing to leave' or get a restraining order after the incident. Who is this 'other man' and what was he doing there; e.g. did he ever live there. How did all this relate to being evicted. And so on. When you say sued, I assume you mean civil court, for monetary damages. Small claims court?

Get a lawyer IF you really are being sued and it's not just a threat. Maybe you will be advised to countersue, or she should sue. If it's small claims (many states go to about 5K) and he has nothing to prove his case then just appear and defend yourself. But the fact that she is being evicted suggests that there is more to this story.

Your defense will be the police report she and you filed, against this man. You are allowed to use certain levels of force, but that does not stop you from being sued, Even police are sued daily for use of force.
