Ruud Seer 11 condenser fan 1/6 hp- .90A-1075rpm replace with 1/5hp-1.3A-1075rpm?
    Hello,
I am wondering if I can replace the condenser fan motor on a Ruud Seer 11
    [1/6hp-.90A-1075rpm-208-230V]
With a motor from a slightly larger Ruud unit (possibly seer 12?)
    [1/5hp- 1.3A-1075rpm-208-230V]
Do I need to replace the capacitor with the one that goes with the larger hp motor?
(or do they use the same one, for both motors?)
    Thank you for your help,
    Jason

The HP is different but the RPM`s are the same,, you probably can get by,, the capacitor has to match the larger hp motor that you are going to use, label on side of motor should tell you the size cap you need. Hold on to the 1/6 hp motor so you will have the original to match up if/when you need to replace again.
Make sure direction of rotation is correct on the bigger motor

Thank you for your quick response, I will try the switch and post my results, but first I have to change the breaker, it keeps tripping and I know the condenser fan was pulling/dragging on start up (and now does not start at all), but want to rule out a bad breaker first. Then I will make the condenser fan motor switch, and hopefully all cool after that.
    Thanks again,
    Jason

Okay, changed the breaker, and the unit tries to start, - condenser fan hums/buzzes and spins slowly (very), then after approx 1 min. breaker trips. So I think either the condenser fan motor or the capacitor is shot, will be replacing with the other 1/5 hp motor and matching capacitor. Hopefully that will fix my issue. I will post my results.

Hey jasoni, just one thing to try. Capacitors are cheap, so I would suggest taking the current capacitor to an electrical shop and having them test it for you. Your issue may only be a bad cap. Worth a shot. If cap proves good, then new motor and matching cap it is. Also, make sure you have correct voltage to the fan motor.
