    Recoil kickback
    I have a 6hp briggs. When I try to pull start the kickback was so severe I had to go to hostpital for a sprained hand.
    What causes it and how can I fix it?

    Check and see if the woodruff key that indexes the flywheel to the crankshaft hasn't been sheared off.

    40 years of dinking around with these... every time I've seen it that's been that problem.
