    Snowblower starting kickback
I have a 10 hp 7 yr old craftsman blower that runs well and has an electric start in addition to the pull start. I used to just use the pull start but now it kicks back violently when it fires and you're still holding the cord. It almost rips your arm off.
If I take the plug out it turns over easily but with the plug in you can pull the cord slowly but the resistance is huge , to the point where the plastic pull handle bends. It will eventually turn over and then cycle through the stroke and then the huge resistance repeats itself.
I am wondering if it is a valve problem with the exhaust valve not opening at the right time on the compression stroke. But with the electric start it starts fine and runs great so I'm scratching my head on this one and would appreciate anybodys ideas.

    Thanks bruce

    Hi,
Strange description since it starts by the electric starter. The exhaust valve usually will not cause the mentioned problem. The intake valve has an automatic compression release on it and would potentially cause the problem. Is it 120V electric start?

It's possible it's the clutch under the blower housing. It can be taken apart and cleaned. Don't loose the 5 balls or so.
    The clutch is also <$15.00.

If it's not clean, the pull rope will grap. Sometimes it will squeak every onece and a while when running.

Our water pipes have come alive! When any faucet is on in the house, there is a lot of noise coming between the tank and the inlet pipe to the house. It's almost as though it's "kicking back" water or something. When a faucet is on, the pressure does not change. It remains at about 40. I...
