April 2 was the first day of your cycle. Your period comes 14 days after you ovulate.

If your cycle is normally 28 days (28 days from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) then your ovulation date was probably April 15 and your most fertile days were April 13 through April 17.

If your cycle is normally 30 days then your ovulation date was probably April 17 and your most fertile days were April 15 through April 19.

Most women will ovulate about 12-16 days before their next period, regardless of the length of their cycle. However, many women ovulate outside the norm... some a bit sooner, some a bit later.

These calculations, and those LisaB suggested, give you a starting place, but it can be helpful to watch for other possible signs of ovulation. Most telling, for many women, will be a change in cervical mucus. As ovulation approaches, you may notice a more fluid, clear, discharge. Some women are also comfortable with checking the feel of their cervix. It can be helpful to check throughout a couple of cycles to know what your cervix normally feels like and be better able to detect changes.

When focusing on days of possible fertility, it is wise to add a few at the beginning and end in case you ovulate outside the norm. Focus much of your actual trying in the few days just before suspected ovulation and through to a few days after as pregnancy is most likely to occur when sperm are already present when the egg is released. This is because waiting for "the day", can sometimes cause you to miss the window of opportunity since the egg is only viable for about 24 hours (with the first 12 thought to be the optimum).

Keep in mind as well, that even with good timing, there is more to becoming pregnant, so it can still take a bit of time even when you do know the days most likely leading up to ovulation. Some couples become pregnant fairly soon, most will be pregnant within a year of trying, and some will find it takes even more time... all can be perfectly normal.
