    Weaning and losing weight
I had a question about losing weight after weaning. After having my baby I barely lost any weight. I attempted to diet as much as I could while I was breastfeeding but could not lose any weight. Finally I got fed up with trying and stopped watching what I ate. I continued to exercise but ate whatever I wanted. I didn't gain any weight by doing this but I obviously didn't lose any either. I stopped breastfeeding in late December because my baby was wanting to bottle feed instead of breastfeed. I have not changed my diet at all from when I was breastfeeding till now. But at the end of January I noticed that my clothes were fitting much looser so I decided to step on the scale. At that time I saw that I had lost a 5 pounds. Now I have been weighing myself once a week and since I weighed at the end of January I have lost another 19 pounds. I don't have any idea how this is happening. Like I said I have not changed my diet at all and have not started exercising anymore than usual.

Is this normal to loose weight this fast after weaning a baby. I just want to make sure that I shouldn't go see a doctor or anything. I am just worried because 19 pounds in 2 and a half weeks seems a little excessive to me. I just need to know if I should be worried or if I should just be happy about the weight loss.

    Starting Weight 199 lbs
    Current Weight 175

It is a good deal of weight to lose in that amount of time, but given your situation from other posts, stress may be a big factor in it. Breastfeeding actually tends to burn calories.

I would go and see your doctor for a check up regardless. It would be a good idea to discuss your wanting to lose weight and just double check that there are no health concerns such as with your thyroid.

Stress probably does have a lot to do with it. I did try to go to the doctor but she said that she can't really get any tests ordered because my insurance won't pay because overall I have gained weight over the past year. She said she would have no way of finding anything out without tests and frankly I don't have enough money to pay for these tests out of pocket.

Hopefully, as you get the stressful situation in your life sorted out, things will ease. Certainly continue to make sure you are taking care of yourself. Be sure to eat well, and if you feel your appetite has dwindled recently, consider an occasional supplemental drink such as Boost or Ensure until you are back on track. Keep up with the exercise as that can be a great stress reducer.
