    Furnace won't turn on pilot is lit gas valve is relly warm
    Is it the gas valve then or could it be the thermostat

    Never guess. Get a electric meter and sound out the circuits to see which component is defective and holding the furnace off. Also Make sure the main gas lever is turned on at the gas valve. Many units will allow the pilot to light but unless the main gas valve control valve is open the burner will not light.
