Ceiling fan wires don't match up with ceiling wires?
The fan I'm installing has 3 wires and I only have 1 coming out of the ceiling. I took an old fan down that only had 1 wire that attached to the 1 in the ceiling. Can you assist? It is a single switch for both the fan and the light. Thank you!

One and one wire? That is impossible. There has to be more to it.

I agree with Stan. The old fan needed at least two wires. What wires do you have in the ceiling?

Hello. Thank you for the response. It is only 1 wire coming from the ceiling fan, I promise, and it was attached to only one wire on the old fan that I just removed. Perhaps it was jerry-rigged!?
    Thank you!

2 conductors are needed for a circuit to work.
Unless it was "Idiot Rigged", by maybe using the ground for a conductor.
Look carefully where the 1 wire enters the box, other may be broke off or curled around the inside of the box.
