I am finishing my basement and was wondering about the span rating for the (2) 2x12 LVL beams that support the one section. It is currently supported in the middle of the 11' gap with a support pole. I was wondering what I would have to do to remove the support pole? Some have suggested added 3/4" plywood on each side over the whole span. My house is a 2 story with a full basement. The LVL beams are not under a wall that goes straight to the roof. I have heard from other contractors that the rating for these beams is a 10' gap? Any suggestions?

Since I am fairly certain we do not have any architects or structural engineers here I'd suugest you consult on of them from the yellow pages. You may also discuss this with your local building department because this type of work will require a permit and rchitect stamp. Also it is very rare for a doubled LVL to not be under a load bearing wall.

Check the span tables from the manufacturer of the product you are buying. For example the Weyerhauser trusjoist tables can be download at: www.****slumber.com/lumber_wood/documents/Microllam.pdf
Please note that some local building codes are more stringent than others, so I would advise to check with an engineer or certified building inspector beforehand or at least size your lumber beam to be the next size larger than the recommended minimum of those suggested in the span tables.
