Ceiling fan still works with swith turned off
I have just built a new house. I purchased new ceiling fans with light kits, and my electrician installed them. It is wired to a switch on the wall. When you turn the switch off, the light goes off but the fan continues to operate. You must use the pull chain to turn it off. My electrician says this is due to manufacturer guidelines. Is this true or is he just telling me this? I would prefer that the switch turned everything off but I do not want to void the warranty.

The electrician is likely not a real licensed electrician because he is feeding you bull. He has 2 hots going to the unit, one hot 24/7 to the fan and the other is interupted by the switch for the light. This may still be salvageable if he ran the 24/7 hot through the switch box, do you know if he did that? Does this unit have pull chains?

What the electrician is probably referring to is the practice that fan manufacturers used to recommend, that fans always be started in the high speed, then reduced to the desired speed. Using the pull chain forced you do that. Having a wall switch permits you start the fan in a lower speed.

Doesn't seem to be a requirement any more.

Open the fan at the ceiling. It should have 3 wires plus a ground-- black, white, and blue or striped. Remove the black wire from the fan and cap off whatever wire it connected to. Connect to the same wire as the blue or striped wire. It should now operate as you prefer.
