When does the landlord have to have the heat on?
I live in york, PA and was wondering if there were any laws about were any laws about when the landlord has to have the heating system running? I moved in sept. 26th and there was no heat in the bathroom and the landlord still did not fix it.

Hello b:
IF the landlord is paying for heat, it should be available ANYTIME you want it.
I'd write your landlord a letter reminding him that HEAT is included in your rent, and that if he doesn't turn it on within 48 hours, you'll sue him.
Send your letter certified, return receipt requested.

Contact the Town dept of Buildings or Board of Health. They should be able to provide that info. Generally its regulated by very local laws.

That changes it a bit... Now, it's a maintenance issue... You can find your states landlord tenant law at the top of the real estate page on a sticky note.
But, in general, I'd write him a letter. (I'm BIG on letters) In it, tell him that the problem needs to be fixed within 72 hours or you'll have it fixed and deduct the amount from your rent.
East coast laws tend more towards putting the rent into escrow rather than using self help. Go see what your state says.

excon is right, this isn't an issue of when heat has to be started, its an issue of providing proper maintenance.
I agree with excon's advice, send him a letter, certified with return receipt, stating that he has 72 hours to repair the problem. If it isn't fixed, get estimates from 2-3 HVAC firms (you should get the estimates during the 72 hours) and present them to him giving him 24 hours to select one.
