    4-wire to 3-wire connection
    Do I need to run my new 4-wire cable from my new range recptacle directly back to the main breaker panel or can I splice into the existing 3-wire cable via a j-box?

    It needs to be 4 wire all the way.

    What is the amperage you are going to need for the range?

    Don is correct.
    You may NOT extend an old 3-wire range circuit.
