My little girl is almost 5 years old. There has not been any trauma in her life. She only talks to me, mom and close family members. Strangely at school she will not make friends, this really concerns me.

Did she just start going to school? Or did she go to pre-school? Maybe she's not used to being around other children. Does she have any cousins, neighbor kids or anyone to play with?

Well, I have to get off line for now. I just know there is a medical condition that identifies what my little girl has, if someone can find it that will be great. Thank you.

Are her teachers commenting on her quietness?

It sounds like she's just shy, maybe just needs a bit more confidence.

My son barely spoke until he was around 4 years old, but that was because of a speech problem. He's been in speech therapy for 6 years now and is doing great.

My daughter spoke early but was always very shy. In kindergarten she rarely spoke and was shy around the other kids.

She's six now, in grade one and has made lots of friends. She answers questions in class and isn't afraid to speak up anymore.

Your daughter may just need a bit of time. If you aren't concerned about her speech, but just her inability to make friends, talk to her teacher, see if she can help introduce your daughter to some of the other kids in her class.

If you are concerned about her speech then please see your doctor. If she needs speech therapy, then the sooner she starts the better.

    Good luck.
