Fan Speed control
I have just put up some fans in my home. I would like to put a fan speed control switch and a lite switch. When I put up the front room fan there are a white,black,ground, and a red wire there. What is the red for? Is the red wire for the lites fan?

I have a 3 speed ceiling fan. The medium and slow speeds seem to work OK but the fast speed setting runs somewhere between slow and medium. Could it be a switch problem or the speed controller? I'm pretty sure it is a Hampton Bay. Sure hate to replace a $200 fan when I can repair it.

I have a Hampton Bay remote control fan, it goes at 1/2 speed in full and medium and does not go at all in slow. The forward/reverse arrow on the remote LCD indicates the opposite direction the fan is moving.
Can the furnace fan speed be controlled by a rheostat or other device?
