    96 civic lacks power
    My son just purchased a used 96 civic dx and for the first week or so, the car seemed to run pretty well. The car started to lose power and apparently it is getting worse. The car runs very well but when accellerating under load. It totally lacks power. I suspect a possible exhaust blockage but after checking the price of a catalytic converter ($699 at Auto Zone). I am not about to buy a new one unless I can be sure this is the problem. Any help?

    Thoughts:

    . Replace spark plugs (NGK only), rotor, and distributor cap. It wouldn't surprise me if the plugs were the culprit.

    . Test/replace Ignition Control Module and coil:

    AutoZone and O'Reilly Auto can check the ICM for free.

    . Check for codes.
