    Whatever they want - same as security. It's usually one or two months but it is at the landlord's discretion.

    I am not aware of a limit, it may be based on historical damage from other pets. Since they can often cause 100's of dollars of damage, and can cause replacement of all of the carpet, many places will not even allow them at all.

    Right or they don't want to state "no pets" so they set some astronomical pet deposit and no one with pets rents the apartment.

    Some owners here in Bismarck charge $400.00 per pet. The units where I live it is $200.00 per pet but what no where comes near the cost of replacing a torn or urine soaked carpet. More and more it is getting to where owners/landlords are not accepting pets like dogs and cats.
