    State Taxes
    Hi

I move from NY to VA 2 weeks ago because of a new job, my old company proposed me to work for them some hours per month and pay me for that time, my problem is that they want to pay state taxes to NY when I'm not living there anymore

If I accept this, is there any possibility that I will have any kind of trouble since at the end of the year when I file my taxes I will be declaring to two different states for the same period

    Thanks in advance

Actually, filing multiple state tax returns is rather common.

If you do not live in NY, then NY will NOT require you pay them taxes IF the work is not done in NY. A utility bill or apartment lease is more than adequate proof that you have moved.

If you WORK in NY, however, then taxes will be due, even though you live in VA.
