2001 GMC 2500HD engine shuts off
Got a problem with my truck, 2001 GMC 2500HD Sierra. About 6 months ago ABS & Low Fuel Light would come on and stay on 80% of the time the truck was running. Truck also shuts off while driving along, everything just shuts down. Took it to a local dealership, they put it on their machine, said the above needed to be fixed as well as a fuel pump sensor. Had all that done yet the truck continues to shut off without any warning while driving. Took it to another dealership and they told me the throttle body needed to be cleaned and a new fuel filter put on it, had that done. Truck still continues to shut off. Had an ignition switch sensor put on it. After truck shuts off during driving incidents it does not want to start immediately. Ignition does a rapid turn over and after a few attempts it will start. Truck still continues to shut off all on its own. Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm desperate for an answer! Truck has 84,000 miles on it, has always been serviced on a regular basis at a reputable GMC dealership. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

    Thoughts:

. Check for codes on your own--AutoZone will do this for free.
. Replace the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor. The CKP Sensor, in conjunction with the PCM (computer) and coil(s), controls ignition. I suspect the CKP Sensor is bad. They are located near the crankshaft, where water and other elements affect them.

While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at PartsAmerica.com

. If replacing the CKP Sensor doesn't solve the problem, my thought is that the PCM is bad.
