    Ceiling fan wiring
    We have a 52" ceiling fan that was installed 2 years ago in a previous home. We now have the electrical boxes put in and are ready to install fans at this location. I have 2 problems. We put up the 52" Harbor Breeze fan and the fan works fine, but the light does not come on. Thinking it was the switch, we replaced it, but he the light still does not come on.

    The 2nd problem is with another fan (I believe it is a Harbor Breeze as well). It is Model #M52-5B/4L. We have a black, white, and a ground wire coming from the electrical box in the ceiling and a black, white, green, from the fan, and blue, white and black coming from what we believe is the motor. We no longer have the instructions. What do we do with all of these wires? We have determined the green wire is the ground wire, and white to white and black to black, but what about the additional wires?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!:confused:

    Switch may not have power, or be bad. Verify bulb and pull switch. Yo could tie to fan wire and both would work from one switch.
    The second fan sounds like a remote unit. Black and white in, then out to light(blue wire),
    And to fan(black).
    If you don't have the handheld remote unit. You could remove, and connect white to white, and the blue and black to ceiling black.

    How are the lights controlled on the first fan?

    A picture of the wiring from the second fan would confirm, however if it was a remote receiver unit it would have more wires than that.

    Neither fans have a remote and the lights come on by pulling the chain.

    The second fan, does it have any sort of special decorative lights inside the motor?

    The first fan, try these troubleshooting instructions, and report back:

    The second fan, if only 2 wires at ceiling, and light works by pull chain, that black is constant hot, tie the extra wire to the black, blue is light and black is fan. Fan and light will work by pullchain.

    First fan, check power to switch(s), and out of switch, also neutral.

    Strat, he has two blacks and two whites coming from the fan. I don't want to tell him to tie them all together until I know what they're for.

    I'm thinking it has a receiver and not aware of it.
    (black and white in, to black and white on fan, then black, white, and blue to fan motor?)

    If you find on second fan, black, white on one side of a module? And black, white, and blue
    On the other side, likely a remote receiver. If you don't have the transmitter, you could remove "module?"and connect white to white, black(fan), and blue(light) to ceiling black wire, also green to green.

    Exactly, Black and white from fan, and black, blue and white to fan motor.
    Does that sound like a receiver for remote fan and light control?

    Except if it was a receiver, there would also be three wires from the fan itself. Maybe there are. The OP says the fan never had a remote.

    I know it has us both curious, I sometimes wire a small light(s) in switch housing to indicate Motion in yard, or door opening, Anything, No on knows what it means but me, and family.
    I don't think this is the case. Take Care.

    Some fans have lights inside the motor housing.

    Hi I have the same problem with cposz
    I have 52" Model M52-5B/4L WestingHouse brand, when I bought the house the fan already there, but one problem only the light work when I pulled the chained to turn of on but the fan never work, I take the picture of the fan wire, the electrical box from ceiling have 3 wire black, white, ground which is copper, I try white to white black from ceiling to black and blue from fan, green to ground but only the light work and the fan never come on. Please help me out thank you.

    Check the direction switch is not in the middle.

    I only see a black and white wire coming from the fan. Is it a remote fan?
