What I did when I lived in an apartment building, was to ask a neighbor if we could change locks. The landlord helped us switch, and the dude found a hole where the key no longer fit. He didn't even think that the locks were traded. OR, Ask your landlord if he has a spare lock around and if a trade would be possible because you did not get your spare back. Then have a new spare made so that the landlord can re-issue this to another door, or put that one back when and if you ever move out.

As for the furniture, tell him when to pick it up or it will be outside waiting for him, then chuck it.
