You see he will not help you get what you want, or need, to move beyond this misadventure.

That's something you will have to do yourself. As you helped him rebuild, you will have to rebuild yourself. There may be a legal recourse as to the finances, but the closure comes from you finally accepting that he is out of your life, and its time to focus on the things that matter, and that's your healing.

So I know this is an old thread... but just wanted to thank you guys for your support. Things stayed pretty messy between us until the first of the year but my emotions were out of it sooner than I expected.
I guess it makes it easier when you lose respect for someone and the rose colored glasses come off.
I have to look back and laugh though as you don't realize how much easier it will get with time. (and good anti anxiety drugs). Your world ends! Funny. It never does.
Now to just wait another five years to get paid completely!
Lesson here: I learned without a doubt what I do not want in a relationship.

Actually X, there really has not been much NC. I think I last talked to him two weeks ago. Getting things financially and legally untangled has taken FOREVER.
What I think was more effective in this case was that talking to him made me sick. Literally. After the ridiculous irresponsibility of this situation... I would feel ill to see his number on my caller ID.
I recognized the manipulation and honestly just got sick of it. His true character surfaced.
So I am probably not the poster child for NC. I went no contact not to heal but because I hate speaking with him.
