I've tried calling, emailing, im'g. He won't respond. Up until this point we talked about just about everything. We could talk for hours before, about everything from politics and religion to the differences between men and women, and when it comes down to it that was the real benefit. I am almost sure that when I finally get in touch with him he is going to say that he has just been really busy and didn't have time to get back to me. And I will know in my heart that that is not true. So how do you get somebody to talk? More than anything I miss my friend.

You can't make ANYONE do something they don't want to do. Instead of hounding him, give him space to get his head around the actions you both took in this situation. YOU have already failed to see he wanted more and you were happy to keep the status quo. Give him a break and leave him alone for a while. Your benefits have been suspended and you should move on.
