    Gas mains
    Hi I am taking my gas fire out and replacing with a real fire. I turned the gas off at the mains and put a stop valve on the feed to the fire. Now I have turned the mains Back on and I've no gas for my cooker or heating? Any help would be great... Thanks

    Hi Sambo

    First, you need a stop valve AND a cap or plug at the fireplace... don't just leave the stop valve open ended, O.K?

    Next step will be to BLEED the air out of the lines that you introduced when you messed with the fire log gas supply. Here, your best bet is to loosen the union fitting and the flexible gas connector at the heater and cooker, respectively and bleed some air out of the line. You only need to bleed the lines until you smell gas and then retighten the connections using two wrenches or pair of pliers. After that try lighting the pilot at the heater and try reigniting the burners at the cooker... may take a minute and you still need to follow directions and be careful, but that should get you up and working again!

    Let me know how you make out...

    When you say a cap or plug do you mean a blank screw on cap the other side of the shut off valve? If so I have that on...
    I'll bleed it out later on I didn't think gas had to be bled like a water system. I'll do that an let you no..

    Yes, that's what I was concerned about. Good that you capped the line! And yes, gas lines need to be bled, too!
