Yes it will work but you pressures will be a bit off since the condenser coil and the evaporator coil are sized for the larger unit. Not to worry since a talented HVAC person can make that setup work with out a problem. You can go smaller but not larger.

What about swapping 2.5 compressor and coils 2.0 comp and coils

So you don't want to swap a 2ton straight ac condenser with a 1.5 condenser? What's going to happen if you do and how long will it last. And where is this talented hvac

"What will happen" is you will most likely have reduced comfort levels. Why do you want to down size your A/C system? }

Rule of thumb--- Its OK to have your evaporator coil a 1/2 ton larger than the compressor. Never opposite. Make sure the compressor is rated for the same refrigerant of the system you now have(R22 or 410a)
