I have my 15 month old niece that has been staying with me and my husband for almost 4 months now. I need as much help with this issue as possible. This is my husbands sister's little girl. She has 2 kids... a 2 year old boy and this little girl. The grandmother keeps the little boy 90% of the time. The mother of the kids lives on her own and does not even see the little girl and the father is in jail for drugs. Since the little girl has been with me and my spouse we have purchased everything for her and none of them have helped with anything, not even a diaper. I have all of the reciepts. I have everything that she needs... clothes... toys.. high chair... diapers... wipes... diaper bag... she even calls us mama and dada. I am about to get her a crib setup this week. I have a steady job and have been here for almost 5 years and my spouse stays home with her because I make more than him and I did not want her in daycare or around any of them. The mother is on drugs very bad and has no job. She is a stripper and sells what she does. The grandmother has 2 kids still at home that she calls names and hits all the time, she also has no job and cannot pay her bills or tell you how they are going to get paid. She messes with people to get money and is trying to get a social security check for her child to live off, They both collect food stamps and the children are not in the home... PLEASE help us because we do not want her to grow up like my husband and we have a stable home for her

You cannot adopt unless the parents - both of them - agree to the adoption UNLESS the children become wards of the State.

Has Child Welfare been called to report the mistreatment?

I have not called anybody. The children at the home aren't at my house, I have my niece. She has been with me for 4 months and the mother won't sign her over and the father is in jail. I was told I was one step ahead since I had her and had her a home set up. I was also told to go to dss and they would not take her out of my home... I just don't know what to do to keep her away from all of the drugs and stuff
