Someone died, who had a(n indirect) connection to the soup, that reminded the man of them.
Uh, something like that. (Don't know what you're thinking here so hope that's not misleading.)
The soup was a different versioin than the man was accustomed to and upon tasting it, he felt guilty and shot himself?
Correct.

Ok, new thought:
Is there something wrong with our boy?
Is he mental?
On medication?

Well, a hint would be welcome! :p
Just did my AMC this year (do you remember the ones of last year morgaine?). This time, I'm sure I did some more numbers well more than last time :) Now, just hoping that I'll be higher up in the rankings. I'll be posting them soon (maybe in a day or two).

No to all. Well, the medication is irrelevant, but any sane person in his position could do the same, so no he's not a loon or anything.
Hint, hmm... I'll have to think of something. (I'm grabbing some food. I'll try to think of a hint and you a question while I'm doing that. For the moment I'd say to concentrate on what you're already on: the soup reminded him of the person, and that it's not what he expected.)

Yes, I remember. I gave up on your last set fairly soon. Are these any harder?

All right, I'm thinking something but it's morbid. In order for it to work the man has to be blind.
Is he blind?

Some, I find a little harder (until I find their solutions that is ;)), the rest, it's similar in difficulty to the previous ones :)

Sorry, no.
A lot of these puzzles are morbid though. Kind of strange. But now I'm curious what the heck you're thinking. :)

I'll call that a yes. (There's also an assumption in there that's never been established. However, it can work this way as well.)

I'm finding I'm not very good with hints. So I will just say that, except for asking if our man killed the dead person, no one has asked anything about the circumstances of the death.

Ok, just to clarify some things:
Our man shot himself with his own gun, killing himself with this one shot, right?
Did the dead man commit suicide too?

It's only relevant that he committed suicide, nothing more. (He could've ODed on heroin for all we care.)
Did the dead man commit suicide too?
No.

Yes, I was making sure our man was dead now, just in case.
Is a third party also involved? (the one who killed our man's 'friend')

I noticed that no one ever actually established that he was dead, they assumed. And really, it's still only relevant that it was suicide, and not even that he accomplished the job. :p

The answer to the actual question is yes. What you put in parenthesis is another assumption that has never been established.

Okay... so... is this third party the one who killed our man's 'friend'?

The assumption is still there.
Since we're to the point of hints anyway...
The first assumption you made was that the dead person was a man! In the version I was trying to follow, this was not even true. But I let it go cause it can still work. (Though the version I was doing gives it a better punch.)
Yes, there's a third party, in all 3 versions. This is important. But in two of the three versions, you're making yet another assumption that is not even in those versions, obviously meaning it's not terribly important to the main gist of the story. While your assumption can work, I think you'll get yourself off thinking better about the total circumstances surrounding the death if you get yourself off this assumption.
If you want what is going to be a bit of a hint:
Who the heck said anyone killed the friend?
