    Ac compressor not running
    Hey everyone -
    Here's my deal.
I have about a 10 yr old Duraguard AC unit. It stopped two days ago. Had a guy come out and he said that my contactor had some corrosion on it. He scraped it off and put it back on for a temp fix - unit worked great all night.
Next day he comes to put a new contactor on and installs a 2 pole (it is a one Pole). Not sure if that makes a difference or not.
Only the fan would come on - no compressor. He turned it on and off a bunch. When he left he told me all was good. But when I went inside - no cool air - just the normal air flow from the furnace fan.
He told me that the condenser was on overload and let it sit. I turned it off from the thermostat.
About 15 minutes later, I went outside and the fan was still going - with the thermostat off.
Fast forward - he came back put on old contact. But, still only fan kicks on and no condenser.
I've looked for a restart and can't find one. I've flipped the breaker to no avail.
Did the fan running that long kill the condenser? Or is there a way I can get it to come back on.
Sorry to be so long. I appreciate your help.

Sounds like this guy did not wire the contactor right.

How can I figure this out? The fan runs fine - I just can't get the condenser to kick in. Is there a diagram I can look at? Or something? I can handle this part myself... I've just never seen what it is supposed to look like.
    Thanks for you help!

The back of the door you take off to get to the contactor Should have a diagram. Compressor should have 2 wires hooked to the contactor, 1 to each side on the top, and 1 wire to the start capacitor

You are amazing. Thank you for answering. I looked at the diagram and here is where I am... I've got cold air blowing - .
But it is going constantly. I have to kill power at outdoor unit to get it to stop.
Super grateful for the cold air, but, would love to get this wiring done.
Can't see all the wires - when they go inside the unit, they go into this silver cylinder thing.
I realize I probably sound like an idiot. This is my first AC gig...
So, right now, I've got it going. But would love to nail it.

The silver thing is the start capacitor. This starts the compressor and the fan motor. http://img.alibaba.com/photo/1005496..._Capacitor.jpg

The wires to the contactor must still be in the wrong place, or the contactor is stuck. Does the fan inside shut down when you turn the ac off?

Thank you so much. I was able to get it working. He had wired it wrong just like you said.
I can't believe this guy is charging money for his services. He took me for a ride.
I looked him up. I think he has a GC license. But, could be someone with the same name. Should I report him somewhere?

Sorry you got ripped off, unforuntatly reporting to the better business or the aturney general never does anything. Best thing to do is just word of mouth. If there is enough complaints going around it will soon catch up with them. Sounds to me like he was going to tell you your compressor was bad and then going to try to sell you a new unit.
