Hello. Today I, 20 yrs old college student, was stopped by 4 NYPD cops for riding my bicycle on the sidewalk while going to college in brooklyn NY. I went on the sidewalk because there was a double park on a small road where the opposite traffic was coming my way, so I went on the sidewalk until I pass the double parked car. The cops told me to stop, and without telling me anything further, they started searching my pockets and my book bag. When I asked one of the officers why am I being searched, he told me "Shut your mouth". Then after searching me he said you could've have weapons and told me that they stopped me because I was driving my bike on the sidewalk. That officer then went on and tells me that since I was being a ""( just for asking why am I being searched) he is going to issue me a summons. Then I told him I am being late for class, he replies and says "good, now you will be 2 times more late". This officer then tells me I watch too much law and order where I replied that I don't watch that show at all. Then this officer goes on and says I would've arrested you but since theirs no space in the jail I will let you go. WOW... ARREST ME FOR DRIVING MY BIKE ON SIDEWALK... CAN THEY DO THAT? All these 4 officers were gathered around me. Then came along another van with like 2-3 more cops who also surrounded me. Total of about like 6-7 cops were surrounded by me. Instead of going after real crime or going after the guy who was double parked, they surround me like I am some serial killer with a AK-47 on me. They tell me that I wouldve taken your bike but I will let it go. I need help to solve this abuse problem. I don't really care about the legal offense which I admit is my mistake and will take full responsibility to comply with any thing I have to do to remedy that offense. What I need help is in how should I go about and make my voice heard about these cops who used excessive force, abuse of authority, discourtesy, and profane language on me. They tried to intimidate me. I was emotionally distressed and really scared. Someone please let me know the procedures that I can take in NY to have these cops face the law for their ruthless behavior so I can have justice prevail for me. Also, I have the badge number and name of the cop who cursed at me and told me to shut my mouth. I would REALLY GREATLY appreciate all the help I can get from everyone. THANKS!

If they hurt you, then I'd help you file a complaint... But, if all they did was swear at you, then you're better off finding another battle to fight. You won't win this one.

That doesn't mean I don't think cops suck. I do.

Hello. The cops did not hurt me. But they called me a "" and also said they would have taken me to jail if they had room in the jails. They threatened me and were trying to intimidate me. I don't think cops are supposed to do this. They are abusing their authority and using excessive false, including profane language and discourtesy. And another thing is that they started to search me without telling me why, and when I asked them why am I being searched, I was told to shut my mouth. Is there any way where you can help me with this or anything I can do something about this because that's not how cops are supposed to treat civilians who have done nothing and comply to everything they say. I did not try to run my mouth and did not try to run away or anything like that.
