    Bike riding
Hi there, I am 21years old, I have two little kids. I am 168 cms tall and I am 81 kg. I have started ridding a mountan bike with a tralier that's connected on the back with the two children in it, the trailer is 20kg and the kids are 20 kgs and 10 kgs, I ride 4 kms a day, 4 days a week, avarge speed of about 6 kms an hour. Do you think I will lose much "fat" doing this? I want to get to about 65kg by christmas, is that possible? Thanks

You may know already but when you are working out, sometimes, though your weight on the scale does not show weight loss, you have lost fat. The muscle you are building will add, so may balance out. Just a thought.

Thanks jrbel7, I didn't know that :) I just really want to get rid of the "flab" lol. So if it is replaced by muscle then I don't mind being a little more then 65kg :)

Yes, bike riding is an excellent cardio workout.

Just be sure to supplement your workout with good diet... I know it can be hard to maintain a good diet with a family and a busy lifestyle, but just cutting back on snacks/sodas/junk food can do wonders!

With good exercise, healthy foods like Sneezy suggests and drinking lots of fluids (not sodas), keeping hydrated, you will begin to see the flab disappear and your muscles will begin to take on a new line of definition. You will be able to tell if you still need to lose a little weight, as in the fat in your body, but even if you don't see any weight loss on the scales, you will carry yourself better, look better in (and out of) your clothes~~~ Best to you! :p :p :p

I have lost lots of weight by riding a bicycle. I have supplemented that with eating things that are very low in fat content, such as not over 4 grams of fat per serving. Went from about 250 pounds to 183 pounds with riding a bicycle and watching what I ate. Took me about a year and a half to lose the weight.

The only thing id mention is a combination of simple diet changes (like simple portion control or even changes in cooking methods) and also other methods of exercise can be powerful.

Athletes cross train because hitting the body from different angles keeps it off balance, "confused", and gives better results.

Bike riding is great. If the issue with exercise is that you have the little ones around and need to have them present when you workout there is another option I really, really believe in.

My wife and I both love exercise dvds. Yes, we go to the gym and hit the trail... but a good way to change up your routine easily is to use DVD's.

We both use billy blanks tae bo amped dvd's... and they can really get into muscles you don't use much... and the stronger you make your body, the better it will feel overall, the less chance you will hurt yourself, and muscle burns more calories than fat... so strength training is, in my opinion, something that all people trying to cut weight should do. It isn't just about cardio... its overall fitness.

Also, pilates is another good workout. Id suggest Stott Pilates, link below... we have the four part series that's a third down the page, starting with The Secret to Flat Abs... anyone who thinks you cannot get a fantastic workout with pilates is clueless. Its powerful stuff.

STOTT PILATES | At Home Video Series

If you don't want to buy, and you usually can find cheaper, used dvds online easily, you can also get dvds from your local public library, often free rentals for a week or two. Actually, I don't use the pilates dvd much of the time, as its slower paced and I'm too impatient, so I've taken several great moves from the training video and incorporated them into my workout...

The thing I like about this is you can do a 35-55 min workout early in the morning before the kids are up... yes, might mean you get up early, but OK...

If you work out in the morning like this (no matter what your workout is) it does several things... it gets the workout checked off the list. No putting it off and putting it off until its too late.

Also, working out early on increases your metabolism during a part of the day when you are more likely to be eating. That early workout cranks up your metabolism so you burn more calories later.

And often if you do a workout like pilates or tae bo early on, you might find later in the day you are feeling good enough to take that bike ride.
