Valerie Jarrett, co-chair of Barack Obama's Transition Team, tells Tom Brokaw this weekend that "Obama is prepared to really take power and begin to rule day one."

When his changes web site came out I copied and pasted his plans to my daughter .here was the wording on the web site at the time:

President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.


But people began to go to the site so he sanitized the language since last week .Here is the new wording :
Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free.

However Rham Emanuel has also called for a civilian corp. In his book 'THE PLAN: BIG IDEAS FOR AMERICA '{pg's: 61-62} he writes :

"It's time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service. ...

Here's how it would work. Young people will know that between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five, the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service. They'll be asked to report for three months of basic civil defense training in their state or community, where they will learn what to do in the event of biochemical, nuclear or conventional attack; how to assist others in an evacuation; how to respond when a levee breaks or we're hit by a natural disaster. These young people will be available to address their communities' most pressing needs."

So you know they are committed to this course.

Valerie Jarrett, was Michele Obama's boss as Richard Daley's deputy chief of staff .Now she is Barack Obama's senior White House adviser.

Jarrett was once the chief executive of Habitat Co. which managed the infamous and largely forgotten during the campaign ,Grove Parc Plaza .
Boston Globe does a good job panning her performance in that role.

Sewage backs up into kitchen sinks. In 2006, federal inspectors graded the condition of the complex an 11 on a 100-point scale - a score so bad the buildings now face demolition.

Grove Parc has become a symbol for some in Chicago of the broader failures of giving public subsidies to private companies to build and manage affordable housing - an approach strongly backed by Obama as the best replacement for public housing.

What matters is saying they have a plan for low income housing, not actually providing it.

Jarrett is another Chi-town pol. Tied heavily to Tony Rezko . She's also a supporter of Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympics ;and will likely use her new White House job to close that deal .

It should also be noted that there were rumors of Jarrett taking Obama's vacant Senate seat. With this appointment the best guess is that Jesse Jackson Jr. will become junior Senator from Ill.

My guess for it to work in with all the professies and all we will have four wonderfully blissful years with Obama. Then when he is re-elected all the good he set up will back fire on us. So I don't see him ruling now as he WILL want his second term.

Is this like Israel's IDF?

It won't work:
- weren't liberals complaining of a potential draft for the war? What is the difference?
- do we really want conscripts forced to serve or do we want volunteers?
- The US population is too heterogeneous
- Is the US under as imminent a threat as Israel? Would the average citizen believe this, given the popularity of 9/11 conspiracy theories?
- would it be faith based - like the Mormon's?
