I have a brand new home, and I believe, Carrier AC (doesn't say on the outside, but sure it is) AC Unit outside, and my dogs chewed the thermostat wires. The Thermostat is A Honeywell Programmable. There are 4 colored wires that are coming out of the Thermostat R,Y,G,W. There are two wires that are coming off the AC unit, One is Yellow/Blue, and the other is Yellow and Brown. I have two different zones upstairs and downstairs( if that helps). I am trying to find out how to rewire these back together. Thanks

Just reconnect the wires outside back color for color. BTW put a piece of flex conduit on the wires to prevent the dog from chewing them again OR shoot the dog which ever is easier.

There is no color for color to reconnect them to. There are 2 wires that they were connected to that come from the AC. One is Brown/Yellow, the other blue/yellow. So I have R,G,Y,W that all have to be connected to those ones.

There should be a zone panel someplace where the two stats connect to. From that zone panel there should be 2 wires that go to the AC. Probably labeled common and Y. The wires to the AC are not polarity sensitive.

Some carrier equipment uses a 4-wire ABCD bus and this would be polarity sensitive. With 2 wires to the AC, this is not true.

Best method. Make sure wires are not touching. Make the unit call for cooling. Look for the two wires with 24 VAC on them. Those are the ones. One probable color is yellow. It doesn't matter which wire goes where on the AC unit.

Then just connect the wires back. If there are only 2 wires outside that got damaged it will not make a difference which one connects to which. It is a simple 2 wire signal circuit. Now unless the dog chewed up the thermostat on the wall you should have no problem hooking up the two wires. The wires coming out of the thermostat on the wall or on the furnace are connected there on the wiring strip and only two wires to the outside unit go to the wiring strip. Other that this I have no further advice but to call a repair men.

Cool, thanks for the advice. It has been an adventure to say the least. I am trying all that I can. I have even looked at neighbors same setups and applied. The AC is not turning on. Frustrating. Checked fuses. Haven't checked power supply wiring to see if there is even juice though. Will do that today. Thanks again.

Generally with a t-stat system. A cable runs from furnace to t-stat and then another cable runs from the furnace to the outdoor unit. The outdoor unit usually uses two wires, but there are exceptions.

With zoning there should be a zoning module where the dampers and the stats for the zones connect to. So if you can follow the t-stat cable from the furnace. Hopefully the zoing module isn't too far away. Modern control incorporate an fuse on the 24 volt secondary. It's usually an automotive style fuse on the circuit board.
